8-a-side Soccer

8-a-side soccer is a variant of traditional soccer played with teams of eight players. It is similar to 11-a-side soccer but played on a smaller field with slightly adapted rules for the reduced format. It is widely practiced at amateur and recreational levels, especially in local tournaments or sporting events.

• Ball: a regular size 5 soccer is used, the same as in traditional soccer.
• Substitutions: substitutions are often unlimited, allowing players to enter and exit the field during the game, similar to 5-a-side and 7-a-side soccer.
• Goals: goals are smaller than in 11-a-side soccer, typically measuring around 6x2 meters, similar to 7-a-side soccer.
• Rules: the rules are similar to 11-a-side soccer, but with some differences. For example:
  • Offside may not be applied or may be simplified (e.g., only in the defensive zone or near the penalty area).
  • Free kicks, penalties, and throw-ins follow similar rules to 11-a-side soccer, but distances are adapted to the smaller field.

8-a-side soccer offers a great balance between the dynamism of 5-a-side soccer and the tactics of 11-a-side soccer. It allows players to develop the same technical and tactical skills as traditional soccer but with more participation and less dispersion of play due to the reduced number of players and the more compact field.
