Futsal / 5-a-side Soccer
5-a-side soccer, also known as futsal, is a variant of traditional soccer, played on a smaller field with teams of five players each. Its rules are similar to those of soccer, but with some differences that make it faster and more dynamic.
Here are the main characteristics:
- Field: smaller than in traditional soccer, usually on a 20x40 meter surface, with boundary lines and no offside.
- Teams: each team consists of 5 players, including a goalkeeper.
- Duration: the game is played in two halves of 20 minutes each, with a 10-minute break in between.
- Ball: smaller and less bouncy than a traditional soccer, favoring control and technique.
- Substitutions: unlimited substitutions are allowed, and players can re-enter the field multiple times during the game.
- Goals: smaller than in 11-a-side soccer, typically measuring 3x2 meters.
- Rules: there is no offside, making the game more open and dynamic. Free kicks are taken from closer distances, and throw-ins are replaced with kicks.
5-a-side soccer is popular for its accessibility, as it requires less space and fewer players than traditional soccer, and is often played at amateur or recreational levels.
